"Stability in the silent stillness of the Self is the real asana.
Be steady in that real posture." ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi |
I bow to all my teachers in all their forms: past, present and future. May we all perceive the inherent goodness and beauty in all things.
I am fortunate to have encountered many great beings who have been extremely influential at different points on my path.
None more so than my parents.
- My biological father, the late Herbert Becker was a true example of choosing love over hate.
- My mother, Ruth Davis who gave me my name (Anami) and brought the Yoga tradition into my life from the beginning. She is my dear friend and a full expression of the Goddess in all her forms and there is no way to describe how much I have learned from her.
- My bon pere, Bruce Davis has been a true "brother" on the path of surrender and shown me how to have a life of service.
I have so many other lovely beings that have influenced and continue to support me.
- My sister, Lara Becker, who is my constant companion and was my first Ayurveda teacher
- My auntie, Raylene Abbott who first introduced me to herbs and the way of offerings
- My late mentor Karl Linn, who introduced me to the art of community building
- John Elke, with whom I studied for 2 years learning Taoist Five Element Theory
- My first Yoga teacher in Eugene, Oregon who's name I sadly forget, who taught me Kundalini Yoga.
- Alice Rocky, my Iyengar Yoga Teacher who gave me the gift of restorative yoga early on
- Katchie Ananda, my first Anusara Yoga Teacher who showed me how to weave philosophy with asana
- Jim & Ruthie Bernhart, my first 200 hours teachers who showed me how to have a mature yoga practice
- Sri Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar, whose book Heart of Yoga affirmed and supported my earliest intuitions of how yoga ought to be.
- Bihar Yoga School for introducing me to the devotional forms of asana and internal arts of yoga nidra and bhuta shuddhi.
- Mark Whitwell who helped me refine my understanding of the teachings of Krishnamacharya (Heart of Yoga) and empowered me with my breath.
- Erich Schiffmann who affirmed and re-inspired my appreciation of slow and intuitive movement
- Christine Prendergrast who shared with me the magical slow motion inner yoga
- Prashanti de Jager, "Mr. Ojas" who I wish I'd have known a much longer time ago but in a short period of time has inspired me greatly and stoked my Tejas with his spirit-centric understanding of Ayurveda. Thank you for the concept of "atmabala"
- all the teachers and guides in my dreams
- my children, my ex-husband, my friends
- my breath
- my life
